Hola Toni,
I am planning on spending two nights in Palma in September. As we spend most of our time on the east of the island we want to see more of the capital this time. Can you recommend which is the best part of Palma to stay to see the most we can. Also, what is the name of the street with all the shoe shops!!. Do you have any other recommendations for things we should try and do or see as well as the beautiful cathedral.
Muchas gracias
Julie

Feel free to use the info and my name. You may also be interested in another website www.themallorcaforum.com
A good tip for your secret places would be Coll Baix which is only accessible by a long steep path or by sea.

Hi Toni, having lived and ran a business in Puerto de Alcudia for 8 years, I can recommend some good places to eat drink and have fun. We owned The Highlander Bar in C. Mariscos which has now been taken over by Barry (ex Smugglers) and is renamed Busters (www.bustersalcudia.com) after his litttle dog. They do a great British breakfast and show all the football.
Other popular British bars in the Port are nearby Sandra's Bar and Gavin's bar and bar Oceano run by Lynne and brother Barry overlooking the marina which has a great range of sandwiches and is perfect for that morning coffee or afternoon tea.
Not to be missed for late night drinking is The Shamrock, next to Smugglers, opposite the main car park and adjacent to The Pisces Hotel which is run by Fernando, a charming Argentian guy. Another bar which is popular with the locals is The Cockpit which is German run and is situated on the front on the way to Au Canada.
There are many lovely restaurants in P. de Alcudia but my favourites are Ramon's and Can Punyetes which both have excellent tapas as well as other delights, Gli Angeli for exquisite Italian fare, Maison Dulcinea for a superb steak and Cap Roig for excellent fish. Others well worth a visit are Blau Maritim, Bogavante, Bodegas des Port and many more.
The beautiful marina and nine km beach makes Alcudia a perfect holiday destination for people of all ages. Further along the coast towards Can Picafort is the Albufera wildlife sactuary for those who do not want to spend all their days on the beach or in the pool. At Las Gaviotas there is a maze and Alcudia boasts many activities such as the waterpark, go-karting, horse riding as well as all the usual watesports such as windsurfing, parascending, jetskiing etc. The nearby hills are perfect for paragliding and the whole area in the north of the island is great for cyclists.
Alcudia's nightlife is bustling in the busy Pedro Mas y Reus area near the huge Belleview complex where there are many great music bars such as Goodfellows. Peach Pit (excellent for karaoke) and Cheers as well as clubs like Menta and Bells. The famous Linekers is also in this area for the sports fans. Not to be missed is a small but unusual little bar near the Mac hotels called Festas, where Lynne & Steve will make you very welcome with their jelly vodkas!
